Barbara Whisman Kay Miller

Barb died on December 2, 2020 at the age of 66. It would appear that she succumbed to coronavirus, although she has been unwell for a long time, with various ailments and associated complications. She was a gentle lady, a friend to many in our J-land community, and will be sorely missed.

From a local newspaper in NM:
Barbara Kay Miller, 66, of Lubbock passed away on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 in Lubbock.

She was born on July 29, 1954 in Anthony, Kansas to Hurley DeWitt Whisman and Nellie Jean Hanley Whisman.

She was raised in Anthony and graduated from Chaparral High School.

She married Richard Lee Miller on August 18, 1972 in Anthony, Kansas, and they have lived in Sweetwater, Presidio, San Angelo, Marfa, Slaton, and Lubbock, while Richard worked for the railroad.
She had worked at Texas Tech Bookstore, co-owned and operated Ident-A-Kid, and was a homemaker.

She loved to crochet and made baby blankets for her family and friends and had an extensive collection of coffee mugs. She was very artistic and was a cake and cookie decorator. She was an avid sports fan and liked Texas Tech Football and Basketball, Kansas City Chiefs, and University of Kansas Basketball. She was a very intelligent, vivacious, strong willed woman and was the life of the party.

Helen and Ken Richardson Crews Maddox

I am profoundly saddened to have to announce the death of Helen Richardson Crews Maddox on June 29th and of her husband Ken on January 17th, 2020. Helen was known as madcobug in AOL Journals; her journal was My Everyday Life. http://madcobug-myeverydaylife2.blogspot.com/

Helen was a very kind lady and a good on-line friend. I lost contact with her, but it would appear Ken and herself were happily retired. May they both rest in peace.

Lois Battistini

Lois Battistini passed away on Saturday, October 3rd, 2020. Just three days before, she celebrated her 59th wedding anniversary. I cannot recall the link to her blog, but she was one of the J-land community. Her family are left bereft.

Pauline Lieck / Pauline's Country Tales

Pauline Lieck, who was aged 84, died on October 28th at home. She had been ill for some time, latterly suffering from cancer. After spending two months in hospital, she was discharged home at the start of this month, but has now passed away.

Pauline wrote Pauline's Country Tales, in which her last post announces that she is in the hospital and missing everybody.

Everybody is now missing Pauline, one of our senior members, her wisdom, wit and love of nature.

Rest in peace.

Linda S. Socha

Linda Sue Socha passed away on 30 March 2020 as a result of complication during surgery. We remember her positive outlook on life and keep her friends and family in thoughts and prayers.

I refer to the obituary for an appreciation of her life.

I remember Linda's kind and uplifting input into the J-land community as it evolved on Facebook. I cannot be sure that she was in J-land before it was moved from AOL, but am happy to include her on this site of remembrance.
